Challenge
The institution considered that the Panama Tramita website needed a refresh. The version of the website they had was created in 2012, so over the years and the advancement of technologies it was being a bit archaic for users, responding half to the needs of the public. The website was only available in Spanish and it was not responsive, in addition, the interface of the content editor was complicated and in general the workflow of the content manager was complex. They wanted a fully modernized website, with greater functionality and ease of navigation.
Our Solution
For that reason, the institution turned to Rootstack for the development of a new website. We created a renewed highly functional website with a responsive design, a robust architecture adjusted to the needs of the client, and a navigation oriented to give the user an optimal and efficient experience.
Our team of expert software engineers first conducted an assessment of the old website, analyzing what functionalities should remain on the new website and discarding those that were no longer useful to the user. At the same time, the structure of the new website was designed, characterized by being simple and very functional, allowing the user to easily locate what they are looking for, without major confusion.
So we migrated all the data from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8, the CMS that we implemented in this project. It is an open-source content management system, flexible and scalable enough for this type of government portal in which a high amount of data and procedures are handled.
- Friendly graphical interface
In this new website, we have implemented a friendly graphical interface for the control panel of officials, who have to enter the Panama Tramita’s CMS to register each of the procedures that they offer to the public, with the corresponding requirements that citizens must meet to carry them out. The platform is characterized by being easy to use, and created based on users with little technical knowledge.
We designed a subtheme for the content editor, eliminating everything that was not necessary and leaving an interface with only the essential functionalities for officials when creating their nodes in the CMS. We add descriptions in each of the Drupal modules to guide the user at all times. We created custom widgets for some fields that could be difficult for users with little technical knowledge to understand.
- Content moderation system
The AIG can manage all the content that is uploaded to the Panama Tramita website through an advanced content moderation system. Before being published, each of the changes made to the CMS must go through several stages of review and approval. For example, if an official of a government institution wants to publish a new procedure in Panama Tramita, this procedure goes through the draft status, then to the review status. At this stage, what corresponds is adjusted to go to published status.
- Notifications
The platform also has a notification system that sends an alert to website administrators every time content is ready to be reviewed, when it is published or rejected.
- Content management dashboard with graphs
To make the CMS control panel much more didactic, through Vue.js a graphics and statistics functionality was implemented, which connects with Drupal data and offers the official an overview of the publications made by the different institutions.
We are passionate about challenging projects and this is one of the most satisfying projects, as we were able to use our expertise to build a modern and highly functional platform for our client. At Rootstack, we always put ourselves in the customer's shoes to achieve amazing results in our work.
