The client needed a mechanism to standardize the construction of these microsites so that the creation of each one would be faster and certain common functionalities would be available by default in all the microsites of the university. This would save them time and streamline their workflow.
Our Solution
Rootstack's experienced engineering team implemented the Drupal Installation Profile, a solution that allows various features and functionalities of a specific website to be packaged, so that they can be reused when creating a new website.
When creating this Installation Profile package, data about existing modules, configurations, content types, profiles, among others, is saved and will be available to be used when implementing said package in Drupal.
What benefit does Drupal Installation Profile bring?
It is a very useful solution since it allowed the client, first, to standardize the creation of microsites; that is, instead of doing the same website many times, now with the Installation Profile the client could use the same package to instantly configure several microsites with the same default functionalities, only needing to change aspects such as the colors or the names of the sites created.
With this Drupal Installation Profile package, the client created websites fully tailored to their needs, in a more organized way and in a few steps, saving a lot of time since when creating a new microsite, the institution did not have to configure the modules one by one but already with the package the client had everything available by default.
In the case of a university institution, for example, they usually have many offices, departments and dependencies that share similar characteristics and functions. Through this Drupal Installation Profile solution, the client was able to build websites with a similar structure, which each department could manage and edit according to their profile, modifying the appearance, but maintaining the basic structure predefined.
